The Optima 6-Step Oven Cleaning Process™

At the heart of our oven cleaning service is a process designed to leave every corner spotless and every surface gleaming.

Step 1: Inspection and Preparation
We begin by thoroughly inspecting your oven, range hood, and cooktop, identifying any areas that need special attention or potential repairs. A protective safety mat is placed to keep your kitchen space tidy throughout the service.

Step 2: Door Removal and Glass Panel Access
The oven door is carefully removed, allowing us to access the space between the glass panels where hidden grease and streaks often build up unnoticed. This step ensures a truly comprehensive clean that goes beyond surface-level results.

Step 3: Component Disassembly and Deep Degreasing
Trays, racks, rubber seals, and the door itself are taken to a designated cleaning area for thorough degreasing. We strip away layers of baked-on residue that ordinary cleaning products rarely touch, restoring each component to pristine condition.

Step 4: Interior Deep Scrub
The oven interior receives special attention with a deep scrub that cuts through stubborn grime and baked-on carbon. Using professional-grade, powerful cleaning solutions, we restore a clean and hygienic cooking space that looks and performs like new.

Step 5: Exterior Polish and Finishing
The exterior is carefully degreased and polished with non-abrasive, stainless steel-safe solutions. Even the knobs are removed and cleaned individually. We finish by applying a sleek stainless steel polish that not only looks pristine but helps protect against future smudges and fingerprints.

Step 6: Testing, Reassembly, and Final Tidy
Before we leave, the oven is tested to ensure everything is in perfect working order. We reassemble all components, complete a final inspection, and tidy up the surrounding area. All that’s left behind is a sparkling oven and a kitchen ready to be enjoyed.

Cooktop (Stove Top) Cleaning

At Optima Cleaners, we take great care to restore your cooktop to a spotless, hygienic condition. Our professional cleaning process includes:

  • Safety first: We ensure the cooktop is switched off, completely cool, and turned off at the power or gas isolation point before cleaning.
  • Component removal: All removable parts such as trivets, burner caps, rings, and control knobs are carefully detached.
  • Soaking and degreasing: These parts are soaked in warm water with a professional-grade degreaser to loosen grease, grime, and burnt-on food.
  • Surface cleaning: The cooktop surface is sprayed with a non-abrasive cleaner suitable for its finish (stainless steel, glass, or enamel).
  • Gentle scrubbing: Using soft pads or microfiber cloths, we lift away stubborn grease and residue without scratching the surface.
  • Residue removal: The area is wiped clean with a damp cloth to remove all product traces, then dried for a streak-free finish.
  • Reassembly: All parts are rinsed, dried, and reassembled correctly to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Finishing touch: A protective polish or stainless-steel conditioner is applied to enhance shine and reduce future buildup.

Your cooktop is left sparkling clean, hygienic, and ready for immediate use, just like new.

Your range hood will look pristine, smell fresh, and function more efficiently, helping to maintain a cleaner, healthier kitchen.

Commercial Oven Cleaning

In a professional kitchen, your oven is more than just a cooking appliance, it’s a core component of productivity, food quality and safety. At Optima Cleaners, we specialise in cleaning a wide array of commercial ovens, from convection and deck ovens to high-volume rack and combi ovens, to ensure they perform at peak efficiency, compliance and longevity.

Type-specific coverage:

  • Convection ovens (fan-assisted hot air circulation) are common in restaurants and bakeries for even baking and roasting across multiple trays.
  • Deck ovens (stacked chambers or stone/metal decks often used in artisan bakeries or pizzerias) require a specialised approach to carbon and dough residue.
  • Combi ovens (combination steam and dry heat units) integrate multiple cooking functions and demand attention to steam system and water-scale buildup.
  • Rack ovens, rotisserie ovens, pizza ovens, and other high-throughput units each carry their own challenges of grease, carbon, high-capacity trays and ventilation.

Why it matters:

Regular, professional cleaning of commercial ovens isn’t just about aesthetics, it directly impacts safety, food quality, equipment lifespan and operational cost. Built-up grease or carbon can cause uneven heating, smoky odours, reduced efficiency and even fire hazards. A clean oven reaches desired temperatures faster, cooks more evenly, conserves energy and satisfies hygiene/inspection standards.

Tailored for your volume & usage:

Whether you run a small café with a single deck oven, a high-volume catering operation with multiple rack and combi units, or a bakery with specialised stone-plate ovens, Optima Cleaners adapt our services to match the workload, oven type and cleaning frequency you need, helping you control long-term maintenance costs and keep equipment in prime condition.

Commercial oven cleaning by Optima Cleaners in Brisbane

Our Cleaning Process:

  • Safety & preparation: We begin by powering down the equipment, isolating gas or electrical supply as required, ensuring the oven has fully cooled and providing adequate ventilation.
  • Component removal: We remove trays, racks, side panels, door seals, fan covers and other detachable parts. These are soaked in a professional-grade degreaser/dip-tank solution to dissolve heavy grease, baked-on food and carbon deposits.
  • Interior & system cleaning: The oven cavity (walls, ceiling, floor), fans, heating elements, door glass and seals receive deep cleaning with non-abrasive tools and suitable food-safe cleaning agents. For combi ovens, we also tackle limescale and steam system buildup.
  • Special attention by type: For deck ovens that accumulate dough and carbon, we adjust our technique (less water on plate surfaces, more dry scraping) to avoid damage to stone or metal decks.
  • Exterior polishing & finishing: Once internal cleaning is complete, we clean and polish the exterior surfaces (stainless steel or enamel), restore the door visibility, check gaskets and hinges, and re-assemble all components securely.
  • Function check & protective coating: We perform a full operational check: ensuring temperature calibration, airflow/uniformity (important in convection and rack ovens) and that the unit is ready for next-shift service. We apply a light protective polish or condition if appropriate to reduce future buildup and support longevity.

BBQ Cleaning in Brisbane

Optima Cleaners cleans domestic and commercial BBQs across Brisbane, from a Weber Q on a courtyard to a built in stainless outdoor kitchen. The same technicians who handle our oven work do the BBQs, so baked on fat and carbon is familiar ground. We clean around 122 BBQs across Brisbane each season.

What a Brisbane BBQ Clean Includes

Every BBQ clean covers:

  • Grill plates and grates, degreased and brought back
  • Burners and flame tamers
  • Drip tray and fat cup
  • Hood and interior, including the carbon on the inside of the lid
  • Warming rack
  • Exterior, cabinet and trolley
  • Reassembly and an ignition check before we leave

Not included as standard: cupboards and cabinets, outdoor kitchen benchtops, sinks and fridges, the rotisserie, covers, the surrounding patio, the splashback and the range hood. We can clean all of those, but they are add ons. Servicing and repairs are not part of our service.

The BBQs We Clean Most in Brisbane

Across Brisbane we see the same handful of units again and again:

  • Weber Q and portable units
  • Four and six burner hooded gas BBQs
  • Built in stainless outdoor kitchens
  • Charcoal and kettle BBQs
  • Commercial and event BBQs

The most common by far is Weber, right across the range: the family BBQ, the Weber Q, the Baby Q and the Spirit.

What we will not take on is repair work. A BBQ with burners or grates rusted through cannot be brought back by cleaning, and replacing them is a repair rather than a clean.

How We Clean a BBQ

  1. We inspect the BBQ on arrival to make sure it is safe to work on, including a visual check of hoses and fittings for visible damage. If anything looks wrong we recommend a licensed gasfitter.
  2. Our technician turns off the gas at the bottle or isolation point before anything comes apart.
  3. We work from the top down, so everything we scrape off falls into the removable drip pan rather than back onto cleaned surfaces
  4. Strip it down: plates, grates, burner covers, flame tamers, drip tray
  5. The removable parts go into professional degreaser to lift baked on fat and carbon
  6. Burners and burner tubes are cleaned and anything blocking the ports is cleared
  7. Hood and cavity, including the carbon flaking off the inside of the lid
  8. Drip tray and fat cup emptied and cleaned
  9. Reassemble, wipe the stainless down with the grain, and test the ignition

What Brisbane Does to a BBQ

A BBQ in Brisbane takes a different beating to one down south. A few things we see regularly:

  • Humidity and summer storms mean a cover traps moisture, so mould on the inside of the hood is common here
  • Bayside and coastal suburbs get salt air, which pits stainless steel if grease is left sitting on it
  • A BBQ left over winter often has insects nesting in the burner tubes, which is a common cause of uneven flame
  • Heavy summer use fills the drip tray faster than most people expect

Challenges We Handle On Site

Not every BBQ is in an easy spot. A few situations come up often enough to be worth saying out loud.

No tap near the BBQ. Balconies and rooftop areas often have no water nearby. Water makes the job easier, but where there is no tap we use a non water degreaser method applied with cloths, which still gets a good result. Worth mentioning water access when you book so we bring the right products.

A BBQ on a balcony or elevated area. Smaller units, up to about three burners, can be moved down for cleaning. Anything larger is safer cleaned in place, with the plates, burner covers and drip tray carried down separately.

A BBQ that has sat unused. Expect rust, mould and grease baked hard onto the plates. Surface rust comes off and we oil the metal afterwards. We have brought back units that had never been used and had gone rusty just from sitting. What cleaning cannot fix is metal that has rusted through, and that needs replacing.

What else makes a job harder:

  • Rust. Surface rust comes off. Burners or grates rusted through need replacing.
  • Uneven or missing flames. Blocked or rusted burner holes usually mean a repair. We clean and test the BBQ, we do not repair it.
  • Baked on carbon. If you have already scrubbed it yourself and cannot shift the last of it, that is what the deep clean is for.
  • Rangehoods. We clean the exterior and the filters as an add on. Ducts and splashbacks are not included.
  • On the day we need somewhere to park that does not cost us. Where that is not possible, parking goes into the quote.

How Long a BBQ Clean Takes

A Weber Baby takes about an hour and a half, a two burner about two hours, and a five burner around three and a half. Most jobs land between two and three and a half hours depending on size and how long it has been since the last clean.

We can often clean same or next day in Brisbane. It helps to tell us the type of BBQ and whether there is a tap nearby when you book.

Commercial BBQ Cleaning in Brisbane

We clean commercial BBQs for restaurants, pubs, schools, caterers, event operators, and body corporate and strata properties across Brisbane. Timing works around the site, and for restaurants and pubs that means outside operating hours.

A commercial job is less about the products and more about the technique. It takes commercial grade solutions and a lot of hard manual scrubbing to get a unit that is used daily back to standard.

BBQ Cleaning Questions We Get Asked in Brisbane

How often should a BBQ be cleaned in Brisbane’s climate?

A quick clean after each use and a deeper clean every four to six uses keeps it manageable. On top of that a full professional clean once a season is plenty, and it is worth doing one before the BBQ goes under a cover for winter, because a cover over grease traps moisture and that is where the mould starts.

Can you clean a BBQ that has not been used in a year?

Yes. Expect rust, mould and grease baked hard onto the plates. Surface rust comes off and we oil the metal afterwards. The one thing cleaning cannot fix is metal that has rusted through, which needs replacing rather than cleaning.

Do you need water and power on site?

Water makes the job easier but is not essential. Where there is no tap nearby we use a non water degreaser method. We do not need power unless we are working late in the evening and need light, or the space gets very little daylight, like a basement.

Will a professional clean damage the stainless steel?

No. We clean stainless with the grain, use products and tools chosen for it, and a non abrasive scourer. If anything, regular cleaning protects it, because salt air pits stainless when grease is left sitting on the surface.

Do you clean the burners or just the plates?

Burners are part of every clean, not an extra. There are a lot of burner types and some built in units have burners we simply cannot reach, so the technician will tell you what can and cannot be done when they look at it.

Why Oven and BBQ Cleaning is Essential for Brisbane Residents

Keeping your oven and BBQ clean is not only important for maintaining their appearance but also for health and safety reasons.

  • Prevents Food Poisoning: According to the Food Safety Information Council (FSIC), an estimated 4.1 million cases of food poisoning occur in Australia each year, leading to 31,920 hospitalisations and 86 deaths. Poor food handling and preparation practices, including improper cleaning of cooking surfaces, are major contributing factors to the incidence of foodborne illnesses in Australia.
  • Improves Energy Efficiency: A dirty oven can reduce its energy efficiency by up to 50%, which can lead to higher energy bills.
  • Extends the Life of Your Oven: Regular cleaning of your oven can extend its life and prevent costly oven repairs.
  • Enhances Cooking Performance: A clean oven can distribute heat more evenly, resulting in better cooking performance and food quality.

Common Challenges and How We Handle Them

Professional cleaning doesn’t always go exactly to plan, but at Optima Cleaners, we’ve seen it all. Here’s how we handle common challenges to ensure your service runs smoothly:

Faulty Oven Light Bulb
Working in a dim oven is no problem. We also offer light bulb replacement as an optional add-on. Just let us know in advance so we can bring the right bulb for your appliance.

No Water Access for BBQ Cleaning
If your BBQ is located where water access is limited (such as on a balcony or rooftop), we can still complete the job. We’ll prepare non-water-based cleaning solutions and adjust our method accordingly. Please inform us beforehand so we can come fully prepared, though results may differ slightly from our conventional water-based process.

No Power Supply
Power outages or outdoor locations without electricity aren’t a problem. We can bring a portable generator on request, for an additional charge. Just give us a heads-up when booking.

Moving Your BBQ for Cleaning
If your BBQ is on a balcony or awkward location, we can move it to a more accessible area, as long as it’s a 3-burner unit or smaller. For larger BBQs (4+ burners), we recommend cleaning it in place. We’ll remove all detachable components and clean them in a designated area, ensuring a thorough result without the risk of damage during transport.

The Optima Difference: We don’t let obstacles get in the way of exceptional results. With a little advance notice, we’ll adapt our approach to suit your situation, so you still get the spotless, professional clean you deserve.

What’s Unique About Our Oven Cleaning Service

What makes Optima Cleaners stand out is how much care and precision we put into every oven we clean. Most companies stop at making the surfaces shine, but we take things a step further. Our cleaners don’t just wipe down the visible grime, they check the little things too, like light bulbs, rubber seals, knobs, and door hinges, to make sure everything is in proper working order. If something small looks worn or needs replacing, such as a loose fitting or an old seal, we’ll point it out and offer honest advice on how to fix it. This kind of attention means your oven not only comes out looking spotless but also works more safely and efficiently. It’s about doing the job properly, not rushing through it. That’s the Optima difference, caring for your oven like it’s our own so it keeps running smoothly and stays looking good for years to come.

Safety Considerations When Cleaning Ovens and BBQs

At Optima Cleaners, safety guides every step of our process. Oven and BBQ cleaning involves heat, gas, electricity, and strong degreasers, so our trained technicians follow strict safety protocols to protect your home, equipment, and hygiene.

1. Electrical and Gas Safety
Before cleaning, all appliances are switched off, disconnected, and cooled completely. Gas supplies are turned off at the bottle or isolation point, while electrical units are unplugged to prevent short circuits or accidental activation. Any visible damage is reported before work begins.

2. Chemical Handling and Ventilation
We use professional, non-caustic cleaning solutions suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Technicians wear protective gear and ensure proper ventilation to prevent fume exposure. Indoor areas are aired out, and outdoor sites are protected from splashes and wind drift. All residues are neutralised for food-safe results.

3. Surface and Equipment Protection
Before cleaning, we inspect the area and cover nearby surfaces to prevent damage. Gentle tools and dwell-time techniques remove stubborn buildup without scratching or forcing components, preserving appliance finishes.

4. Heat and Fire Prevention
We confirm all components are cool before applying cleaning agents. For BBQs, gas is turned off at the bottle before we start. Grease around burners and trays is cleared to reduce fire risk.

5. Environmental Care and Waste Disposal
All wastewater and materials are disposed of responsibly in line with local regulations. Nothing enters storm drains or garden areas, and all used items are bagged for proper disposal.

6. Post-Cleaning Safety Check
After cleaning, each unit is reassembled, tested, and wiped dry to prevent corrosion. The area is left spotless, odour-free, and safe for immediate use.

Oven and BBQ Cleaning Tips

Here are some easy maintenance tricks to help you stay ahead of the grease and grime.

Always Flip the Fuse Before Dismantling
Before unlocking the heater, changing a light bulb, or dismantling the fan, turn off the power or flip the fuse. This simple step prevents electrical shocks and protects your appliance’s components. Safety always comes first, especially when working with built-in ovens and electrical systems.
Always Use a White Non-Abrasive Scourer
Start by cleaning the exterior and glass door using a white, non-abrasive scourer or a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid green, blue, or metal scourers, they can scratch the glass and dull stainless-steel surfaces. This ensures a smooth, streak-free finish and preserves your oven’s original shine.
Be Gentle When Removing the Oven Seal
If you plan to remove the door seal for a more detailed clean, do it before you start cleaning. That way, no grease or dirty water will drip onto your freshly cleaned surfaces. Handle the seal carefully, it’s delicate and can easily rip or stretch, affecting your oven’s insulation and efficiency.
Steam Before You Scrub
Warm your oven or BBQ slightly, then place a bowl of hot water inside for 15–20 minutes. The steam loosens baked-on grease and carbon deposits, softening even the toughest grime. This method reduces scrubbing time and keeps your surfaces protected.
Use a Natural Baking Soda Paste
Mix baking soda with a little water to form a paste, then spread it over greasy areas. Leave it overnight and wipe it clean in the morning. It’s a safe, eco-friendly alternative to chemical cleaners that’s tough on grease but gentle on surfaces.
Freshen Up with Lemon and Salt
Cut a lemon in half, dip it in salt, and use it to scrub your BBQ grates or oven racks. The natural acidity breaks down grease and kills bacteria, while the salt adds a mild abrasive action, leaving your oven or BBQ fresh, clean, and citrus-scented.
Finish with Vinegar for a Streak-Free Shine
After cleaning, spray a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water on the glass door and metal surfaces. It neutralises baking soda residue, removes streaks, and gives your oven or BBQ a brilliant finish, without chemical fumes.
Don’t Panic If the Gas Lighter Doesn’t Work
If the gas lighter on your oven or BBQ doesn’t spark right after cleaning, don’t worry, it’s likely just moisture in the ignition system. Give it a few hours (up to half a day) to dry completely, and it should start working again. Avoid forcing ignition too early to prevent damage.
Prevent Future Messes
Before cooking, lightly oil your BBQ grates and use a reusable oven liner to catch drips. These simple habits prevent burnt-on grease, reduce smoke, and make your next clean-up quick and painless.
Deep Clean at Least Twice a Year
Even with regular maintenance, ovens and BBQs accumulate hidden grease and carbon that basic cleaning can’t reach. Schedule a professional deep clean every 6 months with Optima Cleaners, it keeps your appliances hygienic, efficient, and looking brand new.
